Did You Know? Clark Field
At a public work session of the Board of Education in April of 2015, discussion began regarding a location for Early Childhood Education, which lost its building to fire in June of 2014, including the options of renovating a portion of the current Tech High School or building a new building on the Clark Field site. On June 25, 2015, the Board of Education approved construction of a new building on the Clark Field site to house Early Childhood Education, Community Education, Adult Basic Education, the Welcome Center, Media Services and District Administration Offices.
The building is an estimated cost of $25 million and would be funded by a $10 million lease levy, (that in turn would decrease deferred maintenance) $6 million insurance proceeds from the Roosevelt building, $2.3 million proceeds from the sale of the Colts Academy building, $2 million over 20 years from Community Education funding, sale of the Media Services building, sale of the Wilson building, and if needed, a remainder from the fund balance. The cost of this building is not a part of the referendum and would not be an additional increase or tax burden to property owners.
RFPs were approved by the Board of Education at the July 23, 2015 board meeting, and the RFP was awarded to Miller Architecture, Inc. at the August 12, 2015 board meeting. An estimated completion date for the new building is Spring of 2017.
